July Appointments & Meeting Suggestion

We have two new EC’s for the month of July.
David Newman  KB0NWT    was appointed as EC of Scotland County in District B
Don Vary  KD0HHN   was appointed as EC of Marion County in District B
Lyndall Newton  KD0BWP  was appointed as AEC for Webster County in District D
Welcome to each of you and glad that you have committed to making Missouri ARES® a better organization.
Jeff Young KB3HF  DEC for District C set up a District meeting during the Zero Beaters Hamfest in Washington, Mo on 7-17-11
Since this is an outside hamfest it was a little warm but a good meeting and I wanted to thank Jeff for his efforts to make it happen.  It was nice to have the chance to meet Jeff as well as some of the EC’s in person.
I am trying to get to each District for a meeting with the DEC & EC’s (all ARES members are welcome to attend) during a local hamfest or event.  District A, C, D, & E are done.  Hopefullly I will get to everyone by the end of the year.
One major idea, presented during the meeting, was to set up a place to collect presentation & training materials, etc. that would allow any ARES® member to download things and not have to “reinvent the wheel”
I think this is great and so I am asking any of you that have presentations, training materials, etc. that you have developed and not available from ARRL. for example, to send them to me.
We will set up a method on the ares-mo.org website under Training where you will be able to review & downlonad the materials so you can make minor changes — pertaining to your county — and use it during your meetings, etc.   I hope that we can help us help ourselves and have additional training aids.
The section roster is getting closer to completion.  I got the latest info from ARRL on 7-15-11 and I am checking it against the info that is on the section roster.  I do need the cooperation of all the DEC’s and EC’s to insure we have the correct information.  I would like to have this released by the end of August.  Likewise I will be using the roster to update the appointments that show up on the ares-mo website.  You should be getting an email yet this week with any questions I have related to your District.

Section Report for May 2011

Please pass this along to your EC’s and members of the ARES organization
My sincere thanks to all that helped during the many Emergency Operations during the month.
We had 50 Emergency Operations for a total of 2920 Ham Hours.
(for reference last month the total hours for everything was 2056)
It is humbling to see so much support from our ARES section.  Again my Thanks to each and everyone.
Some food for thought –  While getting volunteers to help in Joplin to support the CERT teams as well as the SATERN group a frequent problem arose.    I would get an email listing all the “stuff” a person had — Securly mounted in their vehicle but nothing that was field deployable.  Unfortunately, that person could not be used.
We needed people that had a mobile that could be taken into a SATERN supply truck and plugged in to the cigarette lighter and stick a mag mount on the vehicle.  Or a handheld w/extra batteries to walk the debris field with a CERT team.   You don’t always get to use your personal vehicle.
With some newer vehicles finding a place for a mag mount can be a problem.  I purchased a 2 cup suction device and mounted an “L” bracket with a NMO mount that will stick on a window, fiberglas body, etc. and with a 1/2 wave antenna (no ground plane reqd) your in business.
