Winter has finally left us here in Missouri and Spring has shown us that it still can have a bite. Severe weather has hit numerous areas of the state with huge hail and tornadoes. From the information provided by the DECs this month many ARES organizations attended Spotter Training from the NWS. The statewide tornado drill was also exercised early in March to remind everyone that its severe weather time. Remember, when you are spotting, always have a safe place for shelter or a quick exit.
District News:
District A: Carroll County continues to work on the MOSWIN service and now has re-titled the user guide as the “EZ-OP USER GUIDE”. ARES members also attended spotter training during the month. Cass County members also attended spotter training and then did an exercise to test communications both through their repeater and also simplex. Jackson County had 40 members attend spotter training and staffed a public table to disseminate ARRL/ARES materials to gain new members. Johnson County participated in NWS training and the statewide tornado drill. Northland conducted a seminar for newly licensed hams which include numerous presentation on ham organizations and net training. A video excerpt can by viewed at https://vimeo.com/122215762.
District F: Boone County ARES provided communications for Froze Toes Race and held a demo session in Cosmo Park to demonstrate go-kits and portable antennas.
District G: Carter County participated in two public service events, Carter County COAD and the 5th Annual Current River Outdoor Show where ARES materials and info were presented. Douglas County held a severe weather drill and attended storm spotting class.
Great job by everyone to keep up the training. We may be Amateur Operators but we are definitely skilled communicators.
Activity definitely increased in the month of March as shown below in the activity report.
